Let’s start with an amazing opportunity: I have recently been contracted by Apex Friendship Middle School to be the music director for their Spring musical, You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown. I had the pleasure of being part of the auditions and meeting some of the kids and I can’t wait to work with them and their awesome director, Nina Winter.
Shortly after accepting that opportunity, I received an email from the North Carolina Opera offering me an opportunity to sing in the chorus of a new opera. Let’s just take a second to talk about the fact that there are still operas being written today. This opera was published in 2017 and this will be a world premiere stage production. How cool is that? It’s an opera in our time about a modern(ish) topic: slavery. The name of the opera is Sanctuary Road by Paul Moravec and it’s about the Underground Railroad. I cannot wait to start working on this opera. Performances are March 4, 5, 6 at the Duke Energy Center.
Now, please do not think that this puts any damper on our own plans. We have a full studio of awesome singers that deserve their own time on stage. Our concert, which was originally scheduled for February, will now be happening in March. Hurray! Concerts!
